US Agriculture Dept increases estimate of Ukraine’s corn exports by 2 mln tonnes

MOSCOW. April 12 (Interfax) – The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) in its April review increased the export forecast for Ukrainian corn in the 2022/2023 agricultural year (July-June) by 2 million tonnes compared to its March forecast, to 25.5 million tons from 23.5 million tons, and for wheat, by 1 million tonnes to 14.5 million tonnes from 13.5 million tonnes.

The forecast for corn production in Ukraine in the current agricultural year has been maintained at 27 million tonnes, and wheat is still at 21 million tonnes.

As reported, referencing Ukraine’s Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, from the beginning of the 2022/2023 agricultural year (July-June) to April 10, Ukraine exported 38.8 million tonnes of grain crops, which is 14.3% less than in the previous season. From July 1 2021 to April 10, 2022, 45.26 million tonnes of grain were exported.

Since the beginning of this agricultural year, Ukraine has exported 22.86 million tonnes of corn (an increase of 9.5%), 13.34 million tonnes of wheat (a decrease of 23%), 2.3 million tonnes of barley (a decrease of 58.3%), 17,700 tonnes of rye (a decrease of 89%) and 120,100 tonnes of flour (an increase of 1.6 times).

In the 2021/2022 agricultural year, Ukraine exported 48.51 million tonnes of grain and legumes, which is 8.4% more than in the previous season.
